International business is indispensable for maintaining prosperity in Germany. This applies all the more to German mechanical and plant engineering, which, with its high export quota of over 75 percent, is dependent on open markets. The task of politics is to create the appropriate framework for this. The German mechanical engineering industry, on the other hand, is required to adapt its strategies to the permanent changes in the market environment.

EXPORT ENERGY TRANSITION
With innovative solutions, mechanical and plant engineering forms the technological backbone for a successful energy transition. The high export figures in the industry prove that our technologies are in demand worldwide. The "Export Energy Transition" working group at this year's general meeting examines the development of energy technologies in the target markets of Europe, China and Indonesia. The aim is to show export opportunities for mechanical and plant engineering in different market conditions.

INDUSTRY 4.0
The Internet has radically changed our world. Industrial production is not exempt from change due to digitalization. On the contrary - German mechanical and plant engineering plays a decisive role in this. Industry 4.0 makes new business models possible and is already emerging. The working group 3 at the general meeting will focus on the approaches in mechanical engineering, how other industries tackle the topic and how IT companies develop business models.
