A strong network is the best safeguard in turbulent times. The mechanical engineers and their VDMA form such a community that finds its way forward and shapes the change itself. The wind blows in the face of the mechanical and plant engineering industry more violently than in a long time - and this from different directions. Political nationalism around the world leads to increased protectionism, secondary sanctions and a departure from multilateralism. How can the export-strong industrial SMEs in Europe assert themselves in such an environment? Climate change is causing a major structural change - not just in the area of mobility. The challenges face opportunities to create a sustainable and livable world with technical solutions. How is mechanical engineering positioned on the winning road? Mechanical engineers are at the forefront when it comes to digitizing business processes. But what about the "digitization dividend"? Is the EU Commission drowning artificial intelligence fearfully and hesitantly in a regulatory thicket? There are many questions in the room, which are also linked together.
